After weeks of pining, I finally got my hands on Kim Gordon's Girl in a Band, and while I was at the store picked up Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The first is memoir, the writer's account for her life and years as badass bassist for Sonic Youth. The second is fiction, has already been optioned to become a movie, and is described as 'fierce' and 'tender' and 'dazzling' and so many more beautiful words. It's a story about love and race and I've only heard from brilliant women who loved it.
After a couple of long, violent, dark narratives, I'm excited to transition to a different kind of story. So here's to a couple of great reading sessions!
